A bath in Not-Next-To #1
Baral was on vacation and the Village of Not-Next-To was the place to go. When you bathed in the water of its wonderful hot springs you felt 20 years younger. The trouble was it was not easy to enter the village. Baral waited patiently in line at the front gate. At last it was his turn to enter.

A tall pnome named Elver looked Baral in the eye and said, "Solve the following two problems or else go away."

Baral replied, "I’m ready for them. What are they?" Elver handed him the first problem.
Place the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, one in each empty square in a special way.

Each number cannot have a number next to it (one square away horizontally, vertically, or diagonally) that is one smaller or one bigger than it. For example, the 2 and the 3 cannot be next to each other but the 2 and the 4 can be.

Barlo scratched his head and began to think hard.
