Pick up pennies
The carnival was in town. Borbo wandered through the crowds of pnomes, looking for an interesting game to play. At least he saw one at the green booth. The barker at the booth shouted above the noisy pnomes, “Play, play the penny maze game. Two dollars is all it costs. Keep all the pennies you pick up.” Borbo rubbed his hands with glee as he read the rules.
Borbo looked at the maze board and wondered if he would be able to pick up more than $2 worth of pennies. Borbo thought out loud, "Where should I start on the board and which way should I move? It looks really, really tricky."
But Borbo loved games so much that decided to see if he could pick up more than $2 worth of pennies. He stepped up to the barker and handed him $2. Then Borbo began to play.
- Start at a perimeter square of the 8x 8 maze. Pick up the pennies on that square.
- The maze master removes all the pennies from all the squares that have the same number of pennies as you picked up. The master then places a block on each of those squares. For example, if you start on the 12-penny square (bottom left), there are three other squares with 12 pennies on them. The maze master removes the 12 pennies from each of those squares and replaces them with a block.
- You move one square at a time to a square that is above/below or right/left of the square you are on. You cannot move diagonally. You cannot hop over a square or land on a square with a block on it.
- Pick up the pennies on each square you land on. Remember, the maze master removes all the pennies from all the squares that have the same number of pennies as you picked up and then places a block on each of those squares.
- Travel the maze until you cannot move. Keep all the pennies you pick up.
