‘Nopiming’ comes from the Objibwe word ‘noopiming’, meaning ‘in the woods/brush’, a term used to describe ‘coming off a lake and heading inland’. This meaning leads to the sense of ‘nopiming’ as ‘entrance to the wilderness’.
